Nicola Salerno has been sacked as Cagliari sports director.

"Cagliari would like to communicate that sporting director Salerno has been relieved of his duties," a statement on the club's website reads.

"The club would like to thank him for all his work and wish him all the best in his professional future."

Salerno joined Cagliari at the start of last season after working for Serie C outfit Foggia.
