Bordeaux fullback Youssouf Sabaly is happy Malcom missed out on a move to England last month.

Despite offers arriving from Tottenham and Arsenal in January, Malcom was blocked from leaving by Bordeaux management.

For his part, Sabaly is happy his club played it tough.

He stated: "Malcom? I've been around for 18 months now and he's a great, great player.

"It's a real pleasure to develop with him and especially to see him be successful. It made me happy to see him stay here, I did not know what was his personal conviction about leaving or not.

"Regardless of his wish, I would have respected him."
