Rotherham ace Barlaser out to prove himself in Newcastle friendly

Rotherham star Dan Barlaser has spoken about his reasons for leaving Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old spent 14 years at the club after signing for their Academy as a nine-year-old from Swalwell.

He eventually came through the ranks and played five games for the first team, before departing.

As Rotherham take on Newcastle in a pre-season friendly, Barlaser has a chance to take on his childhood team.

"Of course [I want to prove a point]," Barlaser told Chronicle Live in an exclusive interview.

"Me and Michael Smith are the only two Geordies in the dressing room and first and foremost, we are massive Newcastle fans.

"We are buzzing to play them. We would have rather played them at St James' Park but it will be great.

"It is not about proving people wrong, it is about showing ourselves and trying to play well to win the game."
