Rosenborg have opened negotiations with Mix Diskerud regarding a new contract.
The Norwegian club's sporting director Erik Hoftun has confirmed that the 24-year old USA midfielder, who has been linked with the Portland Timbers and Columbus Crew, is not necessarily leaving the Tippeligaen runners-up in the winter.
"That [Diskerud] is on vacation does not have anything to say for negotiations," Hoftun told Addresseavisen on Tuesday.
"If we agree [on an extension deal], he must come home to sign, but we are not there yet.
"Mix has been very clear that he did not want to say anything before the situation was resolved. We've really just now started with negotiations."
Reports suggested that Diskerud had sold his house in Trondheim prompting rumours that he could be on his way out in January after a little over two years at the Lerkendal Stadion.
