Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be starting on the bench for the Red Devils' EFL Cup final against Southampton this weekend, according to reports.
United meet the Saints at Wembley on Sunday and one can be sure that manager Jose Mourinho will field his strongest possible lineup for the clash.
Club captain Rooney is expected to be fit for the showpiece event after missing a number of games this month due to various injury problems but it has been revealed that the 31-year-old will have to be content with only a place on the bench.
The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford are all ahead of Rooney in the pecking order and Mourinho is expected to start him with the substitutes as the Red Devils great chases his 11th major trophy and third League Cup.
