Preston have ended their interest in Macclesfield striker John Rooney after a trial spell at Deepdale. Rooney played in a behind-closed-doors practice game against Wrexham at Deepdale towards the end of last season and scored twice.
He is out of contract at Macclesfield later this month, but North End boss Darren Ferguson told the Lancashire Evening Post: "John came here and did really well in a match.
"But at the moment we won't be taking that one further."
Rooney is the brother of Manchester United's Wayne, who is managed by Ferguson's father Sir Alex at Old Trafford.
