Rooney: Man Utd stars roared on Froch v Groves fight

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he watched the first Carl Froch versus George Groves title fight from the team hotel.

Rooney says he and the likes of Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Victor Valdes like to relax in the team hotel before a match by watching a fight wherever possible on TV.

One such instance came two seasons ago, in November, prior to United 2-2 draw at then-Premier League outfit Cardiff City.

The night before that match saw Froch's first fight against Groves - a bout that captivated the whole Old Trafford outfit, according to Rooney.

He told the Daily Star: "We had a good one for the first Carl Froch fight against George Groves, it was Cardiff away and we were in the hotel and had it on the big screen so the whole team was watching it.

"That was when [David] Moyes was manager, he is into his boxing too.

"When Froch went down half the lads were jumping up and half the lads were gutted. That was a good fight to watch with the whole team."
