Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is edging closer to signing for Chelsea this summer. The Sunday Times says Rooney is believed to be close to joining Chelsea in a deal that would net him about £200,000 a week. The striker is determined to leave Manchester United despite an attempt by David Moyes to persuade him to stay.

While the talks were amicable, the striker's desire to quit United has only hardened in recent days.

Rooney was unhappy with comments from Moyes about being a 'reserve' for No1 striker Robin van Persie. But he was more upset with United chief Ed Woodward's admission that there were no plans to discuss a new contract.
