Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has backed his former Reds coach Mike Phelan to deliver if given the Hull City manager's job on a permanent basis.

The two teams meet at the KC Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

"He obviously worked with Sir Alex Ferguson for a long time and played under him," Rooney said. "Hull have started off great this season and I'm sure if he gets the opportunity to manage full time, he'll do a good job."
