Roma secure live broadcasting on Twitter

AS Roma will broadcast live matches and player interviews exclusively on Twitter in the social media company's first rights agreement with an Italian team.

Content will be available to followers of Roma's 15 official accounts, including both the Italian and English-speaking outlets.

The deal will offer fans access to live matches, match previews, player interviews, team training sessions and memorable moments in the club's history via the platform.

The live match portion of the arrangement was not elaborated in the announcement but will likely follow the model Roma adopted in July when they became the first Serie A club to broadcast a live match on Twitter.

The project was deemed a success with 100,000 fans tuning in to watch the club's 9-0 preseason victory over Latina.

"We are proud to have entered into this agreement with AS Roma, a partner that communicates in an innovative way," said Simone Tomassetti, Twitter's head of sports partnerships for Southern Europe.

"Providing a broad offer, with videos and content in the field of entertainment, news and sport is very important for Twitter and the partnership with Rome goes in this direction."

During the past year, Twitter has worked with Roma to help enrich its channel with a series of new and exclusive content, which has won plaudits for its approach to fan engagement.

Data released by the social-media analyst Deportes & Finanzas found that the club's English-speaking following has the highest percentage of engagement among all European clubs.

"Roma's innovative and award-winning social strategy has been recognized by many as a turning point in the world of sport and we are pleased to have become the first club in Italy to have signed this type of business partnership with Twitter," said Francesco Calvo, the club's chief revenue officer.

"The new agreement will allow us to provide our fans and followers with an even more engaging experience, further bringing them closer to the club and giving us the opportunity to increase the exposure and value of our current and future sponsors." (www.sportspromedia.com/)
