Corriere della Sera says talks had been progressing positively over a new contract before Brazil's decision to axe Maicon from Dunga's squad over disciplinary matters.
Roma management have now decided to wait until the facts of the situation come to light before deciding their next move.
Maicon's current deal expires in June.
