Davide Zappacosta admits Chelsea always had a recall option for him during this season's loan with Roma.

The fullback's spell has been marred by a knee injury - though there is hope Roma and Chelsea will agree to a new 12 month arrangement.

Zappacosta said in a social media chat: “I had just arrived in Rome and I had this injury that kept me out for quite a while. I was returning but then this chaos broke out.

"I had taken the ball, sprung and was doing everything on the pitch. I was close to returning. We are forbidden to do anything because the risk is too high. I do my best at home, I have set up a small gym I am trying to stay in shape.

"But the main thing now is health.

"The loan? It was annual, but there was a sort of Chelsea clause that said that if one of the full-backs were seriously injured I would have to return. Quite unlikely, isn't it?"
