Roma confident landing Arsenal defender Gallas

Roma are convinced have landing Arsenal defender William Gallas on a Bosman.

The News of the World says Gallas, who has played 141 games for Arsenal and remains one of the few experienced players in Arsene Wenger's team, has kept silent on his future up to this point.

But sources in Italy suggest Gallas, 32, is open to a move to Roma where he would link up with Claudio Ranieri.

The ex-Chelsea manager brought Gallas to England in 2001 and is keen on signing him again, with Roma seemingly restricted to Bosman moves and cheap deals as money is tight at the Stadio Olimpico.

Wenger only offers players over 30 one-year contract extensions and this has prompted Gallas, who is free to speak to anyone he likes, to contemplate a move away from Arsenal.
