Brendan Rodgers is ready to trump Liverpool to bring Steven Gerrard to Celtic.

The Sun says Rodgers is considering a sensational move for LA Galaxy midfielder Gerrard as player-assistant boss.

Gerrard, who ended his 17-year spell at Liverpool in May 2015, is under contract to MLS side LA Galaxy until December and could be tempted by an offer of a first coaching role.

He has spoken of returning to Liverpool for next season.
