Rodgers: Leicester must stay up to ease financial pressure

Under fire boss Brendan Rodgers admits his Leicester City side are working to survive in the Premier League.

The Foxes are struggling this season, despite impressing in the top half of the table in the past few campaigns.

Rodgers knows that he must keep the club up to avoid the sack and to ensure their financial situation does not get worse.

"Football is never perfectly aligned and always at the top of the table," Rodgers told Sky Sports.

"Unless you have the luxury of working with the top clubs all the time.

"But it's certainly a great coaching challenge and that's certainly what I've been coaching for. Clearly, it's great to be able to win titles and trophies and all of that. But this is a different type of challenge and is one I embrace along with the players.

"The 40 [points] was always the magical number but I think over a number of years, it hasn't taken that number. It's a bit lower, it can be somewhere in the mid-30s, but the beauty is, we focus on ourselves, focus on our performances, what we bring to the game and create our own story.

"And our story is that we want to make sure we stay in this league, and for that, if you value it enough, you have to fight for it."
