Rodgers hails 'exceptional' work rate as Liverpool cruise past Sunderland

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was absolutely thrilled with the amount of hard work his team put it in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Sunderland.

First-half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez preceded Emanuele Giaccherini's effort for the Black Cats early in the second half before Suarez added a second in the final minute.

The performance from Liverpool, after a tough midweek Capital One Cup loss to Manchester United, was praised by Rodgers who now has his side sitting second on the table behind Arsenal.

"On the back of a really tough game where we played well during the week, today was always going to be physically demanding game for us," he told Sky Sports.

"I thought the work we put into it was exceptional and to get the three goals and maybe a few more chances to score a few more.

"I thought we were really dangerous on the counter-attack and as a team we worked really, really hard."
