Manchester United failed to land six of their top targets in the summer. The Daily Express says United - currently ninth in the Premier League - did not land even one of their top transfer targets.

David Moyes and his scouting team lined up SIX players for United to pursue but only managed to acquire Marouane Fellaini from old club Everton on deadline day for an inflated figure of £27.5million.

The names on the champions' hit-list included Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona), Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich), Ander Herrea (Athletic Bilbao), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid) and Leighton Baines (Everton).
