Real Madrid president Florentino Perez made a move for Jose Mourinho before hiring Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday, it has been revealed.
Despite Mourinho having committed to AS Roma last month, the Telegraph says Florentino approached the Portuguese about a return to Real Madrid.
Florentino moved for Mourinho after Zinedine Zidane's resignation, but was turned down as the former Real coach is excited about what Roma's board have planned.
Mourinho's representatives have since confirmed the approach.
After the rejection, the president turned to a second of his former coaches in Ancelotti and was able to convince him to leave Everton.
