Aston Villa stayed strong in their efforts to keep hold of Douglas Luiz.

While Arsenal failed with THREE deadline day offers for the Brazil international, they weren't alone in trying for the midfielder.

Sky Sports says Liverpool lined up a number of potential targets on deadline day and it was quickly revealed that they had made attempts to sign Luiz, although they were rebuffed in their efforts after Steven Gerrard's outfit remained determined to keep hold of their player.

Liverpool did try to sign the Brazilian, but were quickly knocked back and instead pursued Juventus midfielder Arthur.

Arthur signed for the Reds in the evening, joining in a straight season-long loan.
