Far from keeping United's legendary manager at arm's length, Van Gaal and Ferguson have been spotted dining with their wives in Manchester at the end of the domestic season.

The famous bosses had dinner at Van Gaal's favourite Chinese restaurant with Truus van Gaal and Lady Cathy Ferguson joining the party.

Ferguson has been careful about controlling his Old Trafford profile. But he has made it clear to Van Gaal he will help in any way he can to continue the Dutchman's ambitious rebuilding plans.
