REVEALED: Cash due for Liverpool defender Davies but no permanent Sheffield Utd option

Liverpool defender Ben Davies' loan move to Sheffield United doesn't include a permanent option, it has been revealed.

The defender made a shock move to Anfield earlier this year, leaving Championship side Preston North End to join up with the then English champions.

But he never made an outing for the Reds and six months down the line, he's heading back to the second tier.

Freshly-relegated United were in need centre-back cover having seen Phil Jagielka depart and Jack O'Connell continue to recover from injury. Davies could get a quickfire debut when Slavisa Jokanovic's side head to West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night.

The Mirror says if the Blades' season goes to plan and they seal an immediate promotion, it could end with a windfall for Davies' parent club.

A £500,000 loan fee has been paid by United, and if they are promoted this term they will pay Jurgen Klopp's side another £500,000.

It is understood that Liverpool have not inserted an option for the Blades to purchase Davies into the agreement.
