Republic of Ireland mate-ship an advantage says Everton defender Coleman

Seamus Coleman suggests the unity within the Republic of Ireland national team will go a long way in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Boys In Green landed six points from their two fixtures over the international week, beating Georgia 1-0 in Dublin, and getting the better of Moldova 3-1 in Chisinau.

While they may not be as technically adept as some of their opponents, the Irish have a mate-ship that will help them find out positive results as the qualifying campaign for Russia 2018 endures, according to new captain Coleman.

"We can play better, but one thing that we have in there is we have got a team, a group of lads who will do anything to win the game and will do anything for each other," the Everton defender said.

"That's what is great about coming away together. If you make a mistake, nine times out of 10, you have got a mate who is trying to help you out and that's important.

"We can always improve technically, but when we have got that base, it's important. We have had a tough game already - Serbia away, which is a tough game - and we got a point out there, and Austria is going to be a tough game now.

"But they won't look forward to playing us either."

Ireland currently sit second on the Group D table, equal on seven points with Serbia who they trail solely by goal difference.
