Reliance Communications have denied reports of interest in Newcastle United.

The company had been linked with the Premier League side, with their chairman Anil Ambani reportedly having spoken to Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.

Speculation is rife that a takeover is in the pipeline, with the world's sixth richest man Ambani, worth an estimated £23billion, having strongly been linked with making an approach.

It would appear though that any such talk is premature, as Reliance Communications have now issued a statement to the contrary.

"The news report is completely false and baseless. There are no such plans," read an official statement.
