Reece James set to earn Chelsea first-team place

Reece James could earn himself a spot in Chelsea's first spot for next season.

The London Evening Standard claim 19-year-old James has impressed the Blues with his performances for Wigan this season.

James has made 40 appearances in all competitions this term for the Latics.

With the club facing the prospect of being unable to sign players until 2020, the young right-back would be brought in as back-up for captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

That role is currently fulfilled by David Zappacosta, who has failed to impress since arriving from Torino in January 2018.
