Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says the transfer windows work against managers building teams.
Redknapp marks 30 years in management this week.
He told the Daily Mail: "I had long spells at clubs, particularly early in my career. I had ten years at Bournemouth, seven years at West Ham, four years with Portsmouth and four years at Tottenham.
"That gave me a rounded view of transfers. At Tottenham, there was never any frantic buying or selling.
"I had good players, a good team. It's when you're bottom of the league and you have to do something that transfers become vital — and the January rush then kicks in.
"There is no magic wand to turn a team that can't win a game into one that wins every week. You need to change the players."
