Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck's loan move to Preston North End has been given the thumbs up by Jamie Redknapp.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham star told the Daily Mail: "Danny Welbeck is a player with a bright future, even if he isn't yet ready for the Premier League. So the next best thing is a loan (it worked for Frank Lampard, David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand).

"And, like Beckham, Welbeck has been sent to Preston, where he will continue his progress under Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren. A good idea, all round."
