Redknapp backs Liverpool move for Southampton defender Clyne

Harry Rednapp suggests Liverpool's pursuit of Nathaniel Clyne will prove to be a great piece of business by the club.

The Reds are close to completing a £12.5million deal with Southampton for the defender and former Tottenham and QPR boss Redknapp believes he is a quality acquisition for the Anfield club.

Redknapp did, however, have a cheek swipe at Liverpool for continuing to lure Saints players to Merseyside after signing Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert last summer.

"Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool is a great move, although it seems Liverpool only seem to buy Southampton players now! We could have had him at Spurs when he was at Palace," Redknapp told Kicca. "He took his game to another level at Southampton and I think that's a great buy by Brendan."
