Former Japan international Kazuyoshi Miura has rewrote his own record regarding being the oldest professional to play the game.

The veteran, who is now 55 years and 225 days old, came off the bench to play for fourth-tier side Suzuka Point Getters.

He came on during the 76th minute of the game, with his team winning the contest 1-0 against Criacao Shinjuku.

There was a record-crowd of 16,218 at the newly-built National Stadium to see the game.

Miura played for Verdy Kawasaki in their J. League opener in 1993 in the same stadium. In Europe, he played for Genoa and Dinamo Zagreb. He also is a former Santos and Palmeiras player.

He managed 89 caps and scored 55 goals for Japan during his international career.
