Real Salt Lake general manager Garth Lagerwey believes some slight modifications to the current off-side rule would make things a bit more interesting.
Completely scrapping the rule for Major League Soccer would bring about many more goals but turn the game into a chaotic contest and the likelihood is that the governing body would not take the off-side regulation out of the game.
But Lagerwey feels that slightly altering things may make the game more open and get the fans flocking to soccer stadiums around North America.
"If you had no offside, you're basically inventing a new sport," Lagerwey told the Salt Lake Tribune.
But if you were to tweak the rule: "A player would not be offside unless an official can see daylight between the attacking player and the defender," he added.
"It's a subtle tweak, but it eliminates close calls and it would be a big improvement. Give the benefit to the attacker in everything.
"There's no reason to take away the exciting plays that would create."
