Real Madrid's season ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw at Malaga.
Manuel Pellegrini's side came into the match needing victory and hoping old rivals Barcelona slipped up against Real Valladolid but neither eventuality came to pass, with a disappointing draw at the Estadio La Rosaleda combined with a crushing, title-winning 4-0 win for the Catalonians.
Duda gave Malaga the lead inside 10 minutes as the script went wrong almost immediately and although Rafael van der Vaart equalised early in the second half, goalkeeper Gustavo Munua denied them the win as Malaga survived the drop by a single point.
Pellegrini said: "We knew it would be hard to win the league, but I still think we had an extraordinary championship.
"It is logical that the club will need to consider all of their options at the end of the season, but I will not talk about my post. I think we have the base of a good project and I want to be involved."
He added, "From a personal standpoint, it was proven that it has not been easy to overtake Barcelona. They are a great side that produces great football, and is building on the foundations that they have laid in previous years."
