Real Madrid star Raphael Varane has confirmed that contact has been made between himself and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

Varane is reportedly a summer target of United, who are looking to spend heavily at the end of the season in order to launch a challenge for the Premier League next season.

The Frenchman has been touted as one of the players who could be set to leave Los Blancos as the Spanish giants look to fund a move for Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard.

And now the defender has further added to the speculation that he could join United by admitting that contact has been made between himself and Mourinho.

"No, not directly", he said

"There were contacts [with Mourinho], but not directly."
