Real Madrid defender Pepe has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury. The Portugal international's season is over - and also his 2010 World Cup dreams.

Scans last night showed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, suffered in Real's victory over Valencia on Saturday.

"I'm shattered," Pepe admitted to reporters after learning the news.
