Real Madrid president Florentino: Laporta didn't need convincing about Barcelona joining Super League

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says Barcelona are fully supportive of the Super League breakaway.

Perez has been named chairman of the breakaway group.

Asked if Barca president Joan Laporta needed convincing, Perez said: “Well no, because when you talk to responsible people, it doesn't turn around. Barcelona is going through a bad situation and knows that this is the future of Barcelona. Economically this saves everyone, it saves football.

"This will help Barcelona, which is going through a bad economic situation. It didn't cost me anything to convince Laporta because he is a sensible man. He understood it as the clubs have understood it. This saves football, which is going through a very delicate situation, which I have not seen in 20 years. If we don't do something it won't last long, it will go down to a level that future generations will have no interest in football… we are ready."
