Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admits he tried to prise Arsene Wenger away from Arsenal last summer.
Perez wanted to bring in Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as coach last summer before settling for Manuel Pellegrini from Villarreal.
The Chilean lasted a season before being replaced by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
"It was impossible," Perez said of his bid for Wenger. "So we went for a coach with the same characteristics, and that was Manuel Pellegrini."
