Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro feels Manchester United defender Phil Jones is something special.

England boss Fabio Capello has likened the Manchester United defender to the former Spain skipper.

And Hierro, who retired in 2005 after winning 89 caps, said: "I know Jones very well. He played for England against Spain last summer in the Under-21 European Championship and was very impressive.

"I was there and said that England had a serious talent."

Jones signed for United in a £16.5m deal in the summer.

And Hierro, who despite being a centre-half scored 29 international goals, added: "Sir Alex Ferguson would not pay so much for him if Jones was not a great talent.

"If he keeps evolving the way he is he will be world class."
