Real Madrid hero Ivan Helguera says his old club must be careful when signing PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid in a Bosman transfer at the end of the season.

Helguera was part of the Galacticos era and told Marca: "It could be, what happens is that you have to see the mistakes that were made, there were many figures and very good players... but nothing was won.

"In Madrid it is important to win every year. It is wonderful to have all those players, but you have to know how to balance with a good squad.

"For Mbappé to come to Real Madrid would be an impressive signing and upwards it would be difficult to beat.

"What went wrong? The balance, many players up front and then the back and forth was not so easy... I was a defender, it was very complicated to defend with those type of players. You have to have balance with players who go up and also go down."

Asked about comparisons with today's Real squad, he continued: "This squad is different from that one: Nothing to do with it. Physical strength is also important... and this Real Madrid has much more. I think it has nothing to do with it, but that's why I say that you have to be a little careful. But come on, for Mbappé to come if he comes, it would be an impressive signing."

He then likened Aurelien Tchouameni's situation to his at Real.

"For me it was very easy, if I didn't play defence I wouldn't play. That will surely make it easy for Tchouaméni. Wherever the coach wants you, is where you have to play and even more so in Madrid.

"He has surprised me more as a centre back than as a midfielder, perhaps I didn't expect it because I had never seen him before."
