Real Madrid coach Ancelotti rejects Xavi claims: Talking about luck hides your team's problems

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says he'll always prioritise winning the Champions League.

Barcelona counterpart Xavi has stated the Champions League isn't always won by the best team in Europe.

But Ancelotti said today: “I would always want to win the Champions League. Although the Liga is very important, the Champions League is the most important. Winning it means a lot. They are two different competitions.

"In one you play 38 games and in other qualifiers over 180 minutes where the small details are very important. Talking about luck or bad luck can hide problems you have or the merit of the rival team. If I say that after Osasuna I hide the defensive problems we had in the circulation of the ball and the merit of the rival.

"Small details can be controlled. In the Champions League they can score three goals in six minutes, as happened to me in a final, or score two in one minute in a semi-final. Real Madrid in its history has been the team that has taken the most care of those details.

“The small details have determined all this and it has surprised a lot. Even us. I can't comment on this. You have to evaluate what is best and everyone has their opinion. Playing good football is many things. You can't be successful if you only do one thing well. It's easier to say that the Champions League is won by the best."
