The Mail on Sunday says Florentino Perez, who is expected to stand in elections to be Real Madrid's new president this June, is currently targeting the best players in the world as potential transfers to ensure he wins the summer vote - and he wants Fabregas to be his signature signing.

Former Barcelona youth player Fabregas faces key contract talks with Arsenal this summer, when manager Arsene Wenger hopes to persuade him to extend his current deal, which runs out in 2014.

Fabregas's willingness to do so will depend on Arsenal's performance in the FA Cup and Champions League in the next few months and whether the Spain international believes Arsenal have the potential to challenge for titles in the future.
