Real Madrid boss Zidane: We achieved what we wanted to defensively at Man City

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was pleased with his side's strong defensive showing at Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The Spanish giants drew 0-0 with the Premier League side in the Champions League semi-final first leg and kept the home side extremely quiet in the final third.

City managed just one shot on goal, in the form of a Kevin De Bruyne free-kick in injury-time, while Pepe kept Sergio Aguero in his pocket in a defensive display which really pleased Zidane.

"Defensively, we played really well," said Zidane.

"We know Aguero is a good player so we didn't give him much space. The idea was to defend together.

"We managed to achieve what we wanted."

Real will return to the Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg next Wednesday night with the knowledge that they have won their past six matches at the venue, scoring 23 goals and conceding just once.

Los Blancos have also won 17 of their past 19 in the Champions League at the Bernabeu.
