Gus Poyet says Juande Ramos' appointment as Real Madrid coach is proof that his trouble at Tottenham was not of his own doing.

Poyet, who was Ramos' assistant at Spurs, said: "It shows what a top manager he is considered around the world.

"If people think he wasn't able to manage Tottenham, how could he then go on and get a better job so

quickly? That means many people still have a very high opinion of him. So it's also a case of proving people right.

"Juande will be on fire because it's not nice when you get the sack.

"To be able to come back so quickly and, as I said, in a better job is fantastic."
