Real Betis president Pepe Leon has attempted to take the sting out of their contract row with Edu.

The Brazilian striker has threatened to quit Betis if they fail to offer him a new contract by December, but Leon says: "I do not know why there's talk about a lack of respect. Betis never failed to respect any of our players, at least intentionally, I do not know whether he referred to the words of the CEO, when he said that we could not come to terms because we have our ceiling.

"I think that by the end of the year, things will settle, Edu will want to continue with us and we want to continue with him."
