Real Betis great Joaquin explains his retirement decision

Real Betis great Joaquin says it is the right time to retire.

Joaquin will hang up the boots at the end of the season.

At today's retirement media conference, he explained: "This is not a decision, as you will understand, that I have taken lightly. I always deal with this with my wife, my daughters... this year it was much more on my mind, because of my personal situation. It's something that wants to come out of you, that you can't help it, but I'm happy.

"I am 41 years old, so at some point I had to retire. I commented on the issue of the Champions League, but I did not want to condition a moment as important as this to the fact that Betis was in the Champions League and I achieved that goal. But hopefully when I hang up my boots Betis will be in the Champions League.

"I feel that my physique has not withdrawn. It is true that age takes its toll, but I think that my head has withdrawn more, but not because I was bored or did not feel a footballer, but because I believed that it was the right time. My body told me every morning that it was my moment. I matured and talked with my family, because I wanted it to be different and surrounded by my family, but I felt that I had to.

"But I I'm still enjoying myself and training well."

Of his next move, Joaquin also said: "I'm going to discuss this with the president and the vice president, but I'm here to help and feel useful and important. Fortunately, we've been hand in hand for many years, so I'd love to be more sticking to the sports theme, which is what I've sucked and lived through, but I have to learn. It's a new stage and I'm going to be there to learn."
