Reading and Rodgers part company by 'mutual consent'

Reading have announced that they have parted company with manager Brendan Rodgers by 'mutual consent'. The former Royals youth-team boss was only appointed in June after compensation was agreed with ex-club Watford.

But Rodgers was unable to meet expectations at the Madejski Stadium and the club sit 21st in the Championship.

A brief statement on the Reading's official website read: "Following a meeting this afternoon, the chairman, the board of Reading football club and Brendan Rodgers have agreed by mutual consent that Brendan Rodgers will leave his position as first-team manager with immediate effect.

"Reading football club will make no further comment at this stage."
