Any move to Rangers for Newcastle United striker Alan Smith could come down to what the Scottish giants can afford to pay him.

Smith is a big Gers fan and was at Parkhead on Sunday for their defeat to Celtic, which has fueled talk of a move to Ibrox in the summer.

But the Evening Chronicle says Smith will know better than anyone that his £60,000-a-week wages at St James's are nearly three times more than the best paid player at Ibrox.
