Steven Naismith has dismissed claims that he is a player who whines at referees and challenges decisions at any given chance.
The Rangers frontman has been told he should hold his tongue during matches as to avoid punishment from match officials but he says he does not agree with the criticism being directed at him.
"What people have been saying about me is wide of the mark. I do talk to refs during games and I'm getting slaughtered for it - but those people don't know what I'm saying," he said.
"Ask any ref and I'd like to think they would say they respect me and I'm a guy they can chat to.
"I'm not always having a go like some folk have said. I understand refereeing is an extremely hard thing to do.
"I definitely treat them with respect and don't ever push the boundaries too far."
