Rangers deal in final stages of being completed

The much talked about takeover of Rangers FC is in the final stages of being finished according to reports. Businessman Craig Whyte last night flew into Glasgow to hold a final round of talks with club officials and it is highly likely that things will be wrapped up soon.

The asking price of the sale has been knocked down from £33million to closer to £25million by current owner Sir David Murray and figures released by Rangers suggested that their debts had improved from £27m to £21m.

One source told SunSport that things were looking good for the buyout which has been in the pipeline since November.

"It was very positive. He now has to go through the nuts and bolts of the deal with the bank. If everything is in place it will be just a case of dotting the I's and crossing the t's," said the source.

"He's confident if there are no hitches he'll be the new owner of Rangers very shortly."

Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston was calmer about the situation saying that things are still moving along.

"It is unlikely anything will be signed and sealed today. It's a very fluid situation but meetings are ongoing," he said.
