Rangers boss Walter Smith is delighted with the impact made by El Hadji Diouf since his arrival. The on-loan Blackburn Rovers ace has courted great controversy.
But Smith says: "I expected there to be a lot of coverage over El-Hadji Diouf.
"I actually thought he would make a slower start than he has in terms of his football. He's come in against the two best sides in the country so far in facing Celtic and Hearts in his first two games for Rangers.
"His debut against Hearts was always going to be an awkward fixture because they took a heavy defeat at Celtic Park a week earlier. I felt he played very well then and in the Old Firm game.
"When you consider he had been a few weeks without a first team game, his initial performances have been very pleasing.
"Normally it does take time for a loan player to settle in at a club.
"Diouf has come in here and hit the ground running.
"It takes us a wee bit of time to know what he is about as a player, where he fits in, what his assets are and so on.
"But it looks like he can settle in our team."
