Rangers boss McCoist respects Walter Smith's quit decision

Rangers manager Ally McCoist admits he was disappointed to see Walter Smith step down from his role as chairman.

The Ibrox legend quit his post after infighting at the club disclosed that some members of the board were targets to be overthrown.

Despite admitting his displeasure, McCoist certainly respects Smith's decision to walk away from the Glasgow institution.

"I'm obviously very disappointed - that goes without saying," he said. "I'm very disappointed indeed.

"I don't really think so, to be honest with you.

"I don't think there is an awful lot more Walter could have done.

"He has got his own reasons for his departure. I respect that, totally respect it.

"Once again, there is no doubt, it will be with the club's best interests at heart, whatever has forced him to make that decision."
