QPR boss Chris Ramsey fears the club going straight down next season into League One.
After signing a three-year deal to extend his spell in charge, Ramsey warned it could take that length of time to turn the club around.
Ramsey said: "What we have to do as a club is accept there is going to be a period of consolidation and if we end up back in the Premier League during that period then fantastic.
"If we don't we still have to make sure the club has a long-term plan to make sure the club stays within the margins of a long term footing.
"It's easy to come down and think we are a big club in that division but we have to be realistic about our resources.
"We've got to be realistic and make sure we don't slip down the Championship.
"And I'm keen to make sure everyone is aware our main priority is to consolidate first and then see where we are as regards getting back in the Premier League after that."
