Raheem Sterling hoping for Liverpool breakthrough

Liverpool teen Raheem Sterling is convinced he'll get a chance under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

Sterling has revealed already this summer that Rodgers tried to sign him while he was in charge of Swansea City.

"It's good being back at Melwood with the new manager," Sterling told liverpoolfc.com. "He makes everyone feel welcome, even the young lads who are coming up. For him to speak to us is really good. He's given us advice, he's a good manager.

"The manager likes his wingers to press high up the pitch, so I'm working on that to try and impress him at an early stage and I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm not the tallest or biggest of lads, so it's just really about doing more strength work so I can be ready for whenever I am called upon.

"His attacking style of play suits me perfectly but I've still got to work hard in training and try to prove myself and hopefully it will pay off.

"I can't take anything for granted, I've got to work hard, day in and day out in training, and the manager has said if you're good enough, you're old enough, so that's nice for me to know."
